About Steve and Jewel

How much can someone really know about someone else through words? This is our attempt to illustrate to you that we have experience.  At least that we're still willing to try with the knowledge and wisdom we've gained over the last several years. Most of all, what follows and hopefully exemplifies, is that we love to be a part of what God's doing in His Kingdom and how we have been in many different ways. This gives us a small advantage in our experience realm, at least we hope. We know that the last several years we have been involved in some form of ministry and that it has in part, shaped us and given us some stepping stones to keep building on what we know, what we've learned, how we've grown and where we still need to grow. We don't believe that we've "arrived" either. We don't know it all. But we want to share what we've learned. We're students in life as well and God is still molding and transforming us as we seek to glorify Him and share this Good News with those who want to hear.

Caught in the act!

I enjoy fishing as well as church-related events and gatherings. I enjoy one-on-one Bible studies. I also enjoy teaching critical thinking skills. I teach this class so that fellow Christians may understand the use of erroneous "logic" to dismiss the existence of God, the deity of Jesus and the validity of the Bible, especially the New Testament. I take students through identifying various logical fallacies that are often irrelevant to the argument or claim, ambiguous, or presumptuous. After discovering these inappropriately applied defenses, we go through how to help someone else reason out the truth and logic of what they're saying.

I enjoy gardening, amateur photography and church-related events (especially potlucks!). I am introverted by nature (meaning I get re-energized by being alone or in smaller group settings rather than large ones). Therefore, I enjoy more one-on-one relationship building time discussing spiritual topics. I also enjoy teaching classes of any size (as long as there is interaction back from the class!). My favorite subject to teach, besides lessons from the Bible, focuses on emotional health. I like to teach from the book Search for Significance by Robert McGee. He discusses 4 lies that Satan tells us (and we often believe) so that we will at least be somewhat ineffective in ministry. I take them each through the 4 lies (which really summarize down to 1: fear of rejection=my worth is defined by what others think or say about me). Then after we're done with each lie, we discuss what God's Word says to combat those lies and replace them with truths. This was a book that was transformational for me and has helped me to overcome many lies that I once believed, some of which I also still struggle with. But I look forward to how God is going to grow us through this new experience and I look forward to seeing Him work in the students He's preparing to send us.
